Hot Air » Blog Archive » Rasmussen: Obama at 45%
Thank You Hot Air, and Thank You SwampYankee!!If your political strength comes from a perception by voters that you are smart and can get the job done, then you can be forgiven a mistake (e.g, predicting that the “stimulus” would be effective). After all, everyone makes mistakes, the presidency is an incredibly difficult job, and Americans are willing to give almost anyone a second chance. A reputation for competence can be regained if mistakes are followed by successes.
But if your political strength comes from a perception by voters that you will transcend partisanship, unite the country, and change the culture in Washington, and then you govern from the extreme, attack critics as un-American, and get caught repeatedly saying one thing while doing another, there will be no forgiveness. Trust, once lost, is rarely regained
I believe Obama’s declining polls are not an indication that Americans are upset that the stimulus didn’t work and unemployment remains high, or that reforming healthcare is proving harder than advertised. Rather, I believe it reflects disillusionment that they were hoodwinked by a charlatan, a magnificent fraud.
If I’m right, the polls won’t rebound much when the economy does.
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.
