Common Sense

“I wasn’t a great communicator, but I communicated great things, and they didn’t spring full bloom from my brow, they came from the heart of a great nation-from our experience, our wisdom, and our belief in the principles that have guided us for two centuries. They called it the Reagan revolution. Well, I’ll accept that, but for me it always seemed more like the great rediscovery, a rediscover of our values and our common sense.“
- President Ronald Reagan

Disgusting.. making fun of 9/11

I wrote the following email to Jeff Swystun,
Chief Communications Officer and Pat Sloan,
Senior Vice President, Corporate Director of Public Affairs.  Since I could not find any contact information on DDB Brasil website, I figured the global headquarters was best.

You are in SERIOUS trouble.  This was as tasteless as you can possibly
get.  I can only imagine that your reputation is going to suffer
tremendously.  I had never heard of you before this advertisement came
out and I can assure you that your imagine has only suffered greatly in
the eyes of many Americans and decent people who are disgusted by this
ad.

As this quote taken directly from your website says:

"Respect for Our World

As influential communicators, DDB is in a position to use creativity
as a force for good. As Bill Bernbach so eloquently put it, "All of us
who professionally use the mass media are the shapers of society. We
can vulgarize that society. We can brutalize it. Or we can help lift it
onto a higher level."

Surely,
in the case of your Brazillian branch you clearly chose the lower path
and CHOSE to vulgarize and brutalize the United States of America and
are making a mockery of the 3,000+ individuals who perished that day by
an act of terror, NOT an act of nature or mother earth.

At least the World Wildlife Fund had enough decency to realize
that 9/11 was a national tragedy not some natural event and is taking
action to remove their trademark from this disgusting ad.  You, DDB, on
the other hand created this monstrosity and should be greatly shamed by
this.  Whomever your people in Brazil are that created this ad should
be fired and shamed on the way out.

Disgusting, it leaves a very bad taste in my mouth.  Not exactly what you want to be remembered by ya think?

The following people were directly involved in making this mockery of a United States national tragedy:
